How to Find Local Black Friday Deals
Are you curious on how to find local Black Friday Deals? With Thanksgiving just a couple of days away, the inevitable and official beginning on the holiday shopping season is upon on us.
There is something to say for those who search the circular ads and systematically plan which stores to hit in the wee hours of Black Friday in order to find the most sought after gifts of the season. And, while the deals might be great and the savings substantially, what about those of us who choose to shop small, shop local and avoid the crowds at all costs.

There are ways to find local Black Friday deals and holiday sales in your area, but you must look for them.
An important thing to remember is that smaller and local retailers often do not have the budget for national, or in some cases even local, advertising. They rely on things like word of mouth from customers and their online or social media presence to do most of their marketing.
So, how do you find out about these deals. Here are four great tips:
- Connect on social media – If you’ve got a favorite local retailer or artisan, make sure you are connected with them on social media. Make sure to like their page on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, and if they have an email system, even better. Make sure to sign up for email offers so you know when sales are coming and if they are sending coupons, you will have them at your fingertips.
- Check out local publications – While smaller retailers ad dollars tend to be tiny, it is often true (especially this time of year) that local publications such as your local town’s newspaper, will run editorial pieces on local shops to help boost their holiday exposure. Most local publications still offer print and online editions so don’t just throw that free paper in the trash when it’s delivered to your door. Take a moment or two to read it. You might be surprised what local treasures you will find for unique gift ideas.
- Call the store – This may sound obvious but, pick up the phone and call the retailer to see first off, if they will be open on Black Friday, and second, if they are running any specials. This would also be a great time to ask if you can be added to their email list if they have one.
- Check out if they are part of Small Business Saturday – Although technically not part of Black Friday deals, Small Business Saturday is a national program sponsored by American Express. It takes place the day after Black Friday and encourages people to shop small in their local communties. You can visit the Small Business Saturday website and punch in your zip code and it will tell you which local businesses are participating.
